Talks by GIC

We partner various MOE subject units to run and participate in tailored dialogue sessions that offer exposure to and insights on global, contemporary topics, from GIC’s perspective as a long-term investor. These sessions aim to support the continuous professional development of MOE educators, who play a critical role in preparing students for an increasingly complex, ambiguous and rapidly-changing future.

All talks will include a 15-min segment on ‘Reserves, GIC & Securing Singapore’s Financial Future’ covering:

  • Singapore’s diversified approach to managing reserves, which are a strategic asset (rainy day, stability and endowment fund) for the country
  • GIC’s mission, mandate and contributions to economic defence through its long-term investment of Singapore’s foreign reserves

Session Focus:

A discussive and activity-oriented workshop designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills and attitudes to make sound financial decisions, covering the fundamentals of:

  • Financial Goal-setting and Planning
  • Understanding personal attitudes and habits towards money
  • Saving and Budgeting
  • Risk Management and Investing

Session Focus:

An experiential, decision-making game of trade-offs where players experience first-hand key investing principles such as risk diversification and value versus price – drawn from the GIC experience of safeguarding Singapore’s foreign reserves. It comprises:

  • An introductory sharing on how GIC’s five investing principles guide its decision-making
  • Individual online simulation 
  • Group strategy gameplay
